DELHI — Delaware County announced it will host a series of “Delaware County, New York’s America 250 Historic Talks” every Friday afternoon in July before the Fair on the Square begins. The talks will be in-person and livestreamed from 4 to 5 p.m. at the Charles D. Cook Office Building boardroom at 111 Main St. in Delhi.

According to a news release, local historians will talk about significant events that have molded Delaware County over the past 250 years.

The schedule is as follows:

July 3: Ray LaFever will deliver a talk on the Anti-Rent War and how that played a significant role in Delaware County’s history.

July 10: Diane Galusha will talk about the New York City water supply, the reservoirs and the way they changed Delaware County families that have called Delaware County home full-time or seasonally over the years.

July 17: Collin Miller will give a talk on the role of baseball in Delaware County, from “Honest Eddy” being from Hancock to Louisville Sluggers being made from Delaware County timber.

July 24: Cornell Cooperative Extension of Delaware County will speak about the role of agriculture and natural resources in Delaware County, including how that influenced where our current villages and towns have settled, and how it has changed but is still significant in Delaware County.

July 31: Colchester Historical Society will talk about the Revolutionary War, including significant Delaware County figures from that era and the way their participation in the war helped lead the patriots to victory and ultimately how that influenced what is now Delaware County.
